Skylights & Sun Tunnels

Velux skylights and Sun Tunnels integrated into any roof system.

The Service

Why Skylights & Sun Tunnels matters for your home or building.

Skylights and Sun Tunnels are how we bring daylight into spaces a window can't reach, interior bathrooms, closets, hallways, and second-floor rooms with limited exterior wall. Gateway is a Velux installer, the manufacturer specified by our brief, and installs both their fixed and venting skylights as well as their tubular Sun Tunnel system.

The decision between a skylight and a Sun Tunnel comes down to ceiling type, room size, and whether you want the visible glass surface. Skylights deliver more light and a view of the sky; Sun Tunnels are smaller, cheaper, and easier to install in attics with insulation or HVAC obstructions.

Every Velux install includes proper flashing kit appropriate to your roof type (asphalt shingle, slate, metal), high-quality interior light shaft framing where applicable, and code-compliant integration with your existing roof. We register Velux's no-leak warranty on every install.

Frequently Asked

Answers to the questions we get most.

Don't see your question here? Send it through the quote form, we usually respond within a business day.

  • Properly installed skylights with the correct flashing kit and underlayment do not leak. Most leaks come from incorrect flashing for the roof type. We install Velux flashing kits matched to your specific shingle, slate, or metal system.

  • A skylight is a window in your roof with a visible interior shaft and a view of the sky. A Sun Tunnel is a small reflective tube that brings concentrated daylight from the roof to a ceiling-mounted diffuser, cheaper, easier to install, but no view.

  • Yes, Velux makes specific flat-roof skylight units with curb-mounted flashing. Installation differs from a sloped-roof unit, but the daylight benefit is the same.

  • A single skylight install on a typical residential home is one full day, including interior shaft framing and finishing. Sun Tunnels are usually installed in half a day.

  • If the room benefits from heat venting (kitchens, bathrooms, attics that get warm in summer), yes. The Velux Solar Powered Fresh Air model qualifies for the federal solar tax credit in some cases.
